December 9 Birthday: Sagittarius, Birthday Number 9 & Personal Year 2027
Some birthday facts never change: December 9 is always a Sagittarius date with birthday number 9. Others move each year, like the Personal Year — 4 in 2026, 5 in 2027. This page lays out both kinds, with a planning table for 2027.
December 9 sun sign: Sagittarius
Counting from November 22, December 9 is day 18 of 30, the middle of Sagittarius season. Mid-season dates are commonly read as the most textbook version of the sign. Sagittarius, the archer, is traditionally ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion, and its late-autumn season is often linked with travel, learning and big questions.
In the usual descriptions, Sagittarius is optimistic, adventurous and philosophical. Applied to work, the tradition puts it like this: “You may need room to explore, learn and see the bigger picture.” Treat that as a prompt to compare with your own experience rather than a description of you.
Fire signs are traditionally described as energetic and initiating — ideas move into action quickly. In the classic four-element scheme, Sagittarius belongs to fire alongside Aries and Leo; the trio is usually pictured as enthusiastic and action-first. Astrology groups Sagittarius with the other mutable signs, the four that end a season. The usual shorthand for mutable energy is flexibility — adjusting as things change.
Born in December
By US tradition, someone born in December gets turquoise, tanzanite or zircon for a birthstone and narcissus and holly among the birth flowers. December, the old tenth month, brings the winter solstice and the shortest days of the year.
